On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, reaffirms Italy\u2019s unwavering commitment – together with the Ministry of Foreign Affair – to preventing and combating all forms of violence and discrimination against women, both in Italy and around the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cViolence against women is an intolerable violation of human rights and a barrier to the progress of our societies. Italy must remain at the forefront in advancing gender equality, empowering women, and protecting the most vulnerable. We must build a future where no woman fears for her freedom or her life. This is a responsibility shared by institutions, civil society, and each of us,\u201d declared the Minister.<\/p>\n
The fight against gender-based violence continues to be a cornerstone of Italy\u2019s foreign policy and development cooperation. Italy supports global campaigns against harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and child or forced marriages, while actively contributing to the work of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Addressing violence against women and girls is also a key priority during Italy\u2019s membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the 2026\u20132028 term.<\/p>\n
This year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its foreign network once again join the worldwide \u201cOrange the World\u201d campaign promoted by UN Women, illuminating the Ministry\u2019s fa\u00e7ade and engaging in awareness initiatives directed at civil society and youth.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Italy\u2019s diplomatic-consular network also renew their support for the \u201cRed Benches\u201d initiative, a universal symbol of the fight against femicide and a visible reminder of the need to end all forms of violence.<\/p>\n
Educational programs that include training on preventing violence are further strengthened, exemplified by the scholarship scheme launched in memory of Giulia Cecchettin, \u201cInvest Your Talent in Italy.\u201d<\/p>\n
