On 12 January 2018, the Minister of Education, University and Research, Valeria Fedeli, and the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro, gave the official start to the project for schools “Responsibility to Protect (RtoP)”.
The “Responsibility to Protect – RtoP” is a concept developed within the United Nations since 2000, in order to promote the protection of civil population in case of serious and persistent violations of human rights.
Through this initiative, MIUR and MAECI intend to raise awareness among boys and girls of secondary schools in the field of protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, the importance of establishing international protection principles, and stimulate relational skills based on respect for differences, culture of equality and non-violent mediation of conflicts.
“Responsibility to Protect” in schools aims to be an effective educational intervention to talk about citizenship and to promote among young people the awareness of being citizens of the world, strong in their identity, but also open to others.
