Following the Coronavirus emergency, the Presidential Decrees of the Council of Ministers of 9 March 2020 and 8 March 2020 have imposed a variety of safety measures, which define urgent provisions to contain the contagion and contrast the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The established measures will also affect foreigners who decide to travel to Italy: foreign nationals, once entering the national territory of Italy, will be subject to the same measures restricting the freedom of movement. These conditions apply to the whole Italian national territory “except for movements motivated by proven and well-founded work needs or situations of necessity, specifically for health reasons”.
In these circumstances, all foreign citizens wishing to travel to Italy who applied for an entry visa at the Italian Embassy are informed of the possibility of rescheduling their trip during the next semester, obtaining a new Schengen visa to replace those issued with validity from February 1st to June 30th, 2020. To obtain a visa replacement, applicants who intend to travel to Italy in the period aforementioned must deliver proof of a new travel itinerary to the Italian Embassy for the new scheduled dates. Applicants who instead wish to renounce their trip can withdraw their visa application, without this representing to a refusal for the applicant. The costs incurred for the visa application procedure cannot be reimbursed.
