On 26-27 March 2019, the Italian Minister of Defence, H.E. Elisabetta Trenta, made an official visit to the State of Kuwait. On that occasion, Minister Trenta met the Italian military contingent deployed at the Ali Al Salem Air Base, composed of units of the Air Force engaged in the ‘Prima Parthica’ mission, included in the Global Coalition Anti-Daesh. On that occasion, the Minister of Defence witnessed the alternation between the AMX aircraft and the Eurofighter, which for the first time will be located in the operational area with the task of performing aerial surveys. Minister Trenta, on the side-lines of the visit, declared: “through international peace missions we can bring peace and security to our country too, this mission is particularly important because it allowed us to make our contribution in the fight against ISIS; above all, our air assets have contributed to providing decisive information for the performance of the mission”.
During her mission in the Emirate, Minister Trenta was received at Palazzo Bayan by H.H. the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The Italian Defence Minister also held bilateral talks with Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
The consultations concerned the state of bilateral relations and the programs to strengthen them. Furthermore, the main dossiers of regional and international politics of mutual interest of the parties were discussed.
